Chinese enterprises win bid of high-profile Panamanian bridge

China Communications Construction and China Harbour Engineering have jointly won the bid of the fourth bridge over the Panama Canal with a contract price of 1.42 billion US dollars, according to the Ministry of Public Works of Panama.

The project will be one of the most important engineering programs in Panama and Central America for the next few years. It is also the biggest bridge project that Chinese enterprises have ever won bids of in American region.

The fourth bridge over the Panama Canal will be 510 meters long, 51 meters wide and 75 meters high. It will be a road-rail bridge.

China Communication Construction was awarded a contract to design the Atlantic Bridge, the third bridge over the Panama Canal, in 2011.
