F.P. Report
ISLAMABAD: A three member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar has directed former Presidents Asif Ali Zardari, Pervez Musharraf and others to submit their asset details.
The directions were given during hearing of NRO case in Islamabad today.
The bench said that the concerned people should present before the court the affidavit about their domestic and foreign properties.
The chief justice remarked they wanted details of all assets owned by the respondents. He said respondents should also submit details of their children’s foreign assets.
Regarding declaration of asset details, Zardari’s counsel told the court his client submitted an affidavit regarding his properties as he contested General Elections 2018.
To this, Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan asked him to submit the same affidavit to the Supreme Court as well. Advocate Farooq H Naek, representing Pakistan Peoples Party leaders, said the party chairperson, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari submitted the details of assets owned by him to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The apex court issued notices to former presidents, General (R) Pervez Musharraf and Zardari, and attorney general Pakistan. The court sought details and adjourned the hearing for an indefinite period.
The NRO was promulgated in Oct 2007 by the government of the then president Musharraf. Under the ordinance, cases against politicians were removed, paving the way for many of their return to the country.
