ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered a committee formed for regularization of all properties in Bani Gala to submit the outcome of its meeting by tonight.
According to media reports, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday issued orders while hearing a suo motu case pertaining to illegal constructions in Bani Gala. The case was initiated on a letter sent by PTI chief Imran Khan in April this year.
During the proceedings, Additional Attorney General Nayyar Abbas Rizvi pleaded the court to give more time, stating that the committee is scheduled to meet today, to which, the top judge remarked that no time will be given. He ordered the committee to submit a report of its meeting by 10pm.
CJP remarked that the person, who moved the court to take up the case, hinting towards Imran Khan, who has a residence in Bani Gala, should be the first to pay the regularization fees for his properties.
The PTI leader had invited the court’s attention towards the large-scale encroachment on the botanical garden, unchecked and unplanned construction in Banigala, massive denuding due to large scale tree felling and pollution of the Rawal Lake due to sewage.
The apex court judge said that the prime minister should set an example by paying the regularization fees as this move would encourage others.
Babar Awan, who was representing PM Khan, informed the court that his client was ready to pay the fees.
At it, the Chief Justice reprimanded the Capital Development Authority (CDA), stating that it was delaying the process while the prime minister wants to pay the fees.
The hearing of the case was adjourned until tomorrow.
In a previous hearing of the case on Oct 1, the apex court said that it was the job of the PTI government to regularize all properties, including the house of Imran Khan.
