Addressing lawyers at the Federal Judicial Academy, the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Asif Saeed Khosa urged the legal fraternity to make selfless efforts for the restoration of their lost prestige in the society. He expressed concern over the fast erosion of respect for lawyers after the movement that they carried out for the restoration of Judges of the higher judiciary. He deplored the occasional unpleasant scenes created by the lawyers in court rooms and urged for giving due respect to judges of lower judiciary.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan reminded lawyer of their sacred duty of fight against the social diseases, advised them to shun yearning for wealth and serve the humanity. The soul inspiring speech of the Chief Justice of Pakistan is the true reflection of aspirations and expectation of the people from legal fraternity. The ground reality is that after the successful lawyers’ movement, they are charging exorbitantly high fee from their clients but even then they make them run from pillar to post on the dates fixed for hearing of cases. Their frequent strikes and protests result in the adjournment of cases which results in piling up of pendency in both the trial and appellate courts. Interactions with Public Prosecutors reveal that lawyers are unhappy with the Chief Justice o Pakistan worth many appreciations initiative of the Chief Justice of Pakistan which culminated in the setting up and functioning of model courts for the disposal criminal cases of murder and narcotics. The 110 model courts had disposed off 5647 cases in the first two month of their establishment. The CJP advice to lawyers is a matter of introspection and food for though for them.
