Release on import of lambs at Torkham border sought

Ahmad Nabi

LANDI KOTAL: Local tribesmen initiated protest demo on Monday against ban on import of lamb at Pak-Afghan sharing border, Torkham. Led by chief of Khyber Youth committee, Shakir Afridi, scores of locals staged set in in main Landi Kotal bazaar asked for releases of lambs at the border.

They were on the view that last year, they had paid custom duty on import of lambs from Afghanistan and this year they were ready to pay import duty on import of the sacrificial animals but ironically the authorities concerned imposed ban on its import that was a step mother behavior to them.

Most of the population were jobless and couldn’t afford expensive sacrificial animals, available in down towns while sacrificial animals, imported from Afghanistan could be available at reasonable price, they argued. They demanded of the authorities at the Torkham border to relax ban on import of lambs from Afghanistan so that they could get sacrificial animals on low rates on the arrival of Eidul Azha.
