Sale of flags, buntings and decoration items boom ahead of Independence Day

PESHAWAR: The people have thronged bazaars to purchase materials for celebrating of Independence Day of 14th August. The flags and other materials have been displayed on vehicles and and buildings to mark the event with full joy and fervor in the provincial capital here.  

As marking the 73rd Independence Day is right around the corner, the preparations have gained momentum as huge rush of people, particularly children, were seen at different installs of national flags, buntings, badges, set up by vendors in Qissa Khawani and Ghanta Ghar bazaar and Peshawar Saddar and University Town Peshawar.

According to survey conducted by this scribe in the local market here on Sunday, sale of national flags have almost doubled ahead of this year’s Independence Day, in a sharp contrast to depressed business for some years.

Sale of buntings, national flags, badges, wrists band and other decoration items have gained momentum ahead of Independence Day in the provincial capital here.

The business of buntings, badges, wrist bands and caps is also thriving as majority of schools arrange ceremonies to commemorate Aug 14 where decorative material is used.

Another vendor said that Independence Day always increased their business activities, adding that he also offer special discount rates to facilitate buyers.

Gulab Khan, an owner of the National flags and bunting stall owner in Qissa Khawani Bazaar said the demand for the National flags and badges on the rise as August 14 getting nearer, adding that most of the motorists buying flags to hoist on their cars.

Decorative items are in high demand these days including national flags, multi-coloured garlands, badges, ‘Minar-e-Pakistan’ models and portraits of the Quaid-e-Azam and national heroes”, said Atif Iqbal, a shopkeeper in Peshawar sadder.

Shahab Ullah, a bookseller in Qissa Khwani Bazzar says to ‘The Frontier Post’ that “I almost sold out a huge stock of buntings and national flags”. He hoped he will earn good profit this year, as compared to last year.

People belonging to various communities are busy in decorating their houses with national flags and the buildings, city shopping malls, bazaars and all the main roads are also being adorned with flags and fancy lights.

One old aged man with his grandson viewed while recalling his sweet memories regarding Independence Day celebration that in our days we had no such formalities but now people spend a huge amount and it has become a business and things are very expensive. “Thanks to Quide Azam that he gave us Pakistan”, he said

Meanwhile, the business of bakeries also boosted due to high demand of sweets and cakes ahead of Independence Day. The bakeries also claimed that they will offer special discounted rates in happiness of Independence Day.

The shopkeepers also started decorating their shops with National flags ahead of Independence Day.

Various government and non-government organizations also started illuminating its buildings ahead of Independence Day. The business of decoration and lights shops also attracting a large number of people.
