State run schools asked to focus on teaching of science subjects

TIMERGARA:  The Lower Dir district education officer Ghulam Nabi Khan has directed the government schools’ teachers to focus on teaching of science subjects in English medium so that public sector schools could compete with private educational institution. The DEO stated this during his visits to different schools in Maidan area here the other day. The DEO Ghulam Nabi Khan visited state run schools at Sher Khani Darra, Atto, Shadas and Takatak and checked attendance of students and teachers. The official also checked the schools’ record and teaching learning process in classrooms. He also inspected the construction work under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s conditional grant to schools and expressed satisfaction on the work done. At some schools the DEO directed the management and members of parent teachers’ council to expedite the ongoing work on construction of additional classrooms and group latrines.

Talking to teachers the DEO emphasized the need of science and technology. He said that nations could progress and develop only through science and technology. He directed the teachers of high and higher secondary schools to focus on teaching of science subjects and adopt English medium at classrooms.

He said that children and youth were the asset of the nation and it was teachers’ responsibility to guide them for future challenges. The DEO also asked teachers to take active part in ‘Plant for Pakistan’ drive and convince students to plant at least two saplings in this monsoon season. He said the management of education department was well aware of teachers and students problem and it would try its best to resolve all grievances faced by them.

During his inspection of classrooms the DEO also issued some directives to heads of the schools to ensure checking of students’ homework. He asked them to ensure students and teachers’ attendance as it was essential for effective learning.
