Over 2 in 5 (42%) Pakistanis are of the opinion that the influence of religion is increasing over time

Islamabad, 24 January, 2020

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, 42% Pakistanis are of the opinion that the influence of religion is increasing over time.

A representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked, “Do you think the influence of religion is increasing or decreasing among people in Pakistan?” In response, 42% said that the influence of religion is increasing while 36% claimed it is decreasing and 19% said they felt no difference. Only 3% claimed that they did not know/did not wish to respond.

Urban Rural Divide:

Among rural respondents, 40% said the influence of religion is increasing while 36% rural respondents said it is decreasing. 19% said there is no difference in the influence of religion and 3% did not know/did not respond.

Among urban respondents, a higher 46% said the influence of religion is decreasing across people in Pakistan while a similar 36% urban respondents claimed the influence of religion is decreasing over time. 20% said there is no difference in the influence of religion and 4% did not know/did not respond.
