WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s ambassador to Washington, Asad Majeed Khan has said that the United States has not condemned India’s air incursion and adding that the US stance “emboldened” New Delhi.
He said this on Wednesday while talking to international news agency. Pakistani envoy said that the United States should have pinned blame on India.
Ambassador added that it is construed and understood as an endorsement of the Indian position and that is what emboldened them even more.
He added that escalation between the neighbouring countries had greatly increased and adding that Pakistan was eager for greater US diplomacy between Islamabad and New Delhi.
“There is perhaps no other country better placed than the United States to be able to play some role,” he said, pointing to the US relationship with both countries.
He said Pakistan wanted to hold talks with India.
“Prime Minister Imran Khan has ordered the armed forces to counter the Indian forces’ aggression,” he said.
How Pakistan targeted India?
Addressing media on Wednesday, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor had explained the ongoing activity at the Line of Control (LoC) and shared, “PAF engaged six targets across LoC from within Pakistani airspace.”
Pakistan’s armed forces have capability, resolve and nation’s support. But, since “we are a responsible state and we want peace, therefore, we first decided not to attack any military targets.”
“Secondly, we decided that there be no loss of life or collateral damage in our engaging of targets,” he added. “Our planes locked targets, then in open air, we carried out strikes,” he continued.
“We locked all targets with accuracy, and when we had option to fire, we acted responsibly from a safe distance. We have capability to do anything, but we don’t want escalation. We don’t want to go towards war,” the DG asserted.
“After PAF decided on targets, two Indian jets entered Pakistani airspace and the PAF faced them. The two planes were shot down — one fell in our space and the other on their side. Two pilots were arrested — one of them was injured and has been taken to CMH and will be given proper care. Another is in our custody.”

DUBAI: After four months of easing prices, petrol costs in the UAE are set to increase in March, the country’s Fuel Price Committee announced on Wednesday.
From March 1, the price of Super 98 will be 9 fils higher at Dh2.04 a litre from Dh1.95 at present. Special 95 will climb 8 fils to Dh1.92 from Dh1.84, while diesel will rise 13 fils to Dh2.41 from Dh2.28.

In that span, prices for both Super 98 and Special declined 66 fils. The price of diesel dropped 59 fils from December to February.
Oil rallied for a second day on Wednesday, buoyed by an unexpected decline in US crude inventories and after Saudi Arabia appeared undaunted by pressure from US President Donald Trump on Opec to prevent steeper price rises.
Crude prices have risen by almost a quarter so far this year, after the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, together with other producers such as Russia and Oman, agreed to cut output to avoid the build-up of a global surplus, particularly as US output has boomed.

The Sindh High Court dismissed on Wednesday a petition seeking the division of the Sindh province into seven states and Karachi as an independent state.
It’s up to the legislature, not courts, to carve out provinces, the court said in its ruling. The court remarked it is imperative to pass a law with two-thirds majority in the Parliament for the purpose.
The state’s counsel, Barrister Mustafa Mahesar, opposed the petition. He said it is not in the SHC’s domain to form provinces. The stance in the petition caused offence to the people of Sindh, said the court. The petitioner has failed to present any legal argument, it said.
Azmat Rehan had petitioned the court to partition the province into seven states.
He argued in his plea that in all the European and Muslim countries, including the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Egypt, Syria and Turkey, the population of any province is not more than 50 million.
“Pakistan is a rich country. All its provinces have the potential to be an independent state,” the petitioner said. “The country’s leaders never worked for its development. They have disregarded the devolution of powers.”
“Sindh is also a rich province but the so-called waderas, Mirs, nawabs, Makhdooms and Pirs always held the neck of the poor Sindhis.
The influential people never allowed the establishment of schools, colleges, universities, institutes for technical and science education as they do not want to see poor Sindhis educated and developed,” he said.—NNI

Pakistan Air Force (PAF) shot down two Indian aircraft inside Pakistani airspace on Wednesday and arrested an Indian pilot on ground. The move came after Pakistan warned India of a “surprise” on Tuesday in the wake of Indian military aircraft’s intrusion into Pakistani airspace. Politicians, including Finance Minister Asad Umar and Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari, reacted to the news of Indian aircraft being shot down.
“I hope there are no questions left about Pakistan’s capability and will to defend itself now,” the finance minister said. “Hope the sane voices in India will be able to stop Narendra Modi’s mad attempt to pitch two nuclear nations in a conflict that no sane person can want,” Umar added. The human rights minister said, “PM had warned India if they attack we will not think of responding we will respond. Instead of asking for sanity and condemning India’s dangerous brinkmanship, some in the international community applauded India for its attack yesterday. We had the right to respond in self defence and we did.”

WASHINGTON: United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has urged both Pakistan and India to exercise restraint, after the tensions increased between the two nuclear-armed countries of South Asia.
According to reports, Mike Pompeo said this after talking with his counterparts of both the Pakistan and India. He said that US encourages India and Pakistan to exercise restraint, and avoid escalation at any cost.
Pompeo added that he spoke with Indian Minister of External Affairs Swaraj and Pakistani Foreign Minister Qureshi and emphasized both the countries to underscore the priority of de-escalating current tensions.
Earlier on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi telephoned the US secretary of state and briefed him on the violation by India at the Line of Control (LoC).
During the conversation, the minister said Pakistan would never compromise on its integrity. “We want peace and tranquility in the region.”
Qureshi conveyed the sentiments of parliament, government of Pakistan, and people of the country to Mike Pompeo.
Pakistan always exercised restraint for peace and stability in the region, but India was always sabotaging our efforts.
In the wee hours of Tuesday, Indian military aircraft violated the Line of Control as they intruded from the Muzaffarabad sector but were forced to return owing to the timely response of the Pakistan Air Force, Pakistan military spokesperson Major General Asif Ghafoor said.
The incursion into the Pakistani air space follows a series of threats by Indian political and military leadership after the attack on an Indian Army convoy at Pulwama by a local youth, in reaction to the oppression unleashed by the occupational forces.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan will chair the meeting of National Command Authority (NCA) to discuss a response to India’s Line of Control (LoC) violation, today (Wednesday).
The NCA is the top civilian-led command headed by the prime minister to oversee the policy formulation, exercises, deployment, research and development, employment and operational command and control of the country’s nuclear arsenals.
Prime Minister Imran Khan had chaired a meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) a day earlier during which it was announced that a meeting of NCA has been summoned today.
The NSC had rejected Indian claims of targeting an alleged terrorist camp near Balakot and said that Pakistan will decide the time and place of response to the aggression.
Earlier on Tuesday, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor also warned India that it was time to “wait for our surprise”.
“I said three things: You will never be able to surprise us. We have not been surprised. We were ready, we responded, we denied. I said we will retain the escalation ladder. We have that initiative in our hand,” he said.
“I said that we will surprise you. Wait for that surprise. I said that our response will be different. See it for yourself. The response will come, and response will come differently,” he warned the Indian army.
Indian military aircraft violated the LoC as they “intruded” from the Muzaffarabad sector and were forced to return owing to the timely response of the Pakistan Air Force, Pakistan Army spokesperson Major General Asif Ghafoor said early Tuesday.
“Indian aircraft intrusion across LoC in Muzafarabad Sector within AJK was 3-4 miles. Under forced hasty withdrawal aircraft released payload which had free fall in open area. No infrastructure got hit, no casualties. Technical details and other important information to follow,” Major General Ghafoor wrote on Twitter.
The incursion into the Pakistani air space follows a series of threats by Indian political and military leadership following the attack on an Indian Army convoy at Pulwama by a local youth, in reaction to the oppression unleashed by the occupational forces.

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan will not attend a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) if Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj participates in it, scheduled in March.
According to details, OIC has invited Indian minister Sushma Swaraj as a “guest of honour” at the inaugural session of the foreign ministers’ conclave in Abu Dhabi next month.
While talking to private news channel, Qureshi said that Pakistan has no reservations with OIC or any other Islamic country but we have reservations on the attendance of Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj at the OIC meeting.
FM added that “If Swaraj attends the meeting then I will not participate in it”.
Qureshi shared that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu telephoned him.
“The Turkish foreign minister telephoned me himself and sought to be briefed on the current situation.”
“Cavusoglu clarified that Turkey is fully standing behind Pakistani people and government,” he added. “The Turkish foreign minister said the prayers and cooperation of Turks are with their Pakistani brothers and sisters.”
“We believe India has committed aggression against a brother Islamic country and attacked a founding member of the OIC,” Qureshi quoted Cavusoglu as saying.
“The Turkish foreign minister said there is no reason for Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj to attend the meeting of the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) and Turkey will fully oppose her invitation and opportunity to address,” he added.
Further, Qureshi said he wrote a second letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres last night.
Last night while speaking to media, FM Qureshi said, “I have spoken to the United Arab Emirates foreign minister and have expressed my reservations over her invitation. I have made myself clear that India has shown aggression.”
“Under the current circumstances, it will not be possible for me to attend OIC meeting where Swaraj is present,” he said.
Qureshi further said he spoke on call to United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and apprised his US counterpart over the blatant Line of Control (LoC) violation by the Indian security forces, and the stance of Pakistani government, parliament and masses’ reaction over the concerning development.
Earlier on Tuesday, Leaders from opposition parties demanded that Pakistan boycott the OIC meeting. The demand of the opposition parties came following Indian aircraft violating Pakistani airspace across the LoC and being repelled due to the timely response of Pakistan Air Force.
“Indian aircraft intrusion across LoC in Muzafarabad Sector within AJK was 3-4 miles. Under forced hasty withdrawal aircraft released payload which had free fall in open area. No infrastructure got hit, no casualties. Technical details and other important information to follow,” director general of the Inter-Services Public Relations wrote on Twitter.
