Shehbaz announces to form national govt after 2018 elections

LAHORE : Former Punjab CM and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif on Friday while announcing to form national government after forthcoming general elections said that all of us will have to work hard to make Pakistan strong.

In an interview to a private news channel he said Punjab is the target of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), adding that cases of billions of rupees were pending but the anti-graft watchdog didn’t summon anyone.

Shehbaz declared Babar Awan culprit of Nandipur but no one asked him anything.

He further appealed the anti-graft agency not to arrest his party leaders before elections.

Commenting on the differences of estrange PML-N leader Chaudhry Nisar party, he said that there are differences in every party, adding that he has very good relationship with the former interior minister.

Before leaving for London, former prime minister and party supremo Nawaz Sharif had resolved differences with Ch Nisar for party ticket but he had applied for the party ticket.

Efforts were underway to control the differences that were created as a result of cross statements, he added.

Responding to a question, the ex-Punjab CM said that a single party cannot resolve the issues facing the country, adding that clash is not a solution.

“All stakeholders will have to sit together and to make Pakistan strong we all will have to work together in the interest of the country.”

Software Expo marks new era of China’s software industry development

The 22nd China International Software Expo opened in Beijing with the theme of “New Era, New Concepts and New Software”. This year’s expo includes exhibitions of the latest software products, industry summits and forums, and a security software competition.

“Software development has become an important milestone in China’s goal of building a strong China and smart nation with digital technology. Software technology is at the core of building China’s global competitive advantage,” said Wang Xinzhe, the chief economist of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Wang said that information technology has become an important engine driving the social and economic transformation of China.

China’s software industry has been undergoing a long period of sustained growth. In 2017, more than 745,000 copyright applications for software were lodged, an increase of 82.79 percent compared to the previous year. And in the first quarter of 2018, 4.12 million mobile apps were available in the country’s mobile app market, more than 20 times the 200,000 available in 2010.

Although the future looks bright, China’s software companies are being encouraged to collaborate with international leaders in the field, while at the same time increase their independent research and development capability. The Vice General Secretary of the China Information Technology Industry Federation Li Jie said that China welcomes international software companies into China, and hopes they can conduct meaningful collaboration with local companies.

Of the enterprises taking part in this year’s expo, 80 took part as independents. This was on top of the 343 enterprises from provinces and cities across China, including Hebei, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Nanjing, and Hong Kong that joined the exhibition in teams. Their exhibits range from customer service robots to city traffic monitoring systems. One of the products on display, a system designed to find missing people, has successfully solved 6,221 missing person cases in less than two and half years.

Xu Yiteng, an attendee of the expo, told China Radio International that in the past five years, software development had visibly changed his life. “Instead of waiting in a long queue at the local government, I just have to log onto an app to fill out forms. Everyday life has also become very convenient. For example, apps can help me order takeaways, and also get me to my destination”.

The four-day expo, held at the Beijing Exhibition Hall, is co-hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Beijing Municipal Government.

Coffee might be helpful in protecting your liver

Monitoring Desk

When you have your morning coffee, you might be doing more than just giving yourself a boost to start your day — you could also be keeping your liver healthy. New research presented earlier this month at the American Society for Nutrition’s annual meeting in Boston suggests that coffee lovers might have a lower risk of liver disease compared to those who forego drinking a regular cup of joe.

A research team led by Emily Hu, doctoral student at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, analyzed data on 14,208 people between the ages of 45 and 64 who had been part of the national Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study. This study looked at the presence of atherosclerosis — a disease in which plaque builds up in your arteries — among people in the United States.

Over a 26-year period, these people all filled out questionnaires on what foods they consumed, including coffee. Hu and her team zeroed in on those who said they drank coffee and cross-referenced them, using hospital discharge records and death certificates, with people in the study who experienced liver-related hospitalizations and death.

What they found is good news for coffee fans: People who drank three or more cups a day had a 21 percent lower chance of being hospitalized for a liver-related illness.

“It was a really great experience to present this research and it was quite surprising how much interest there was in this research,” Hu told Healthline. “Everyone who loves coffee was delighted to hear these results.”

Hu said that the ARIC study presented a rich cross-section of Americans, surveying communities in four states — North Carolina, Mississippi, Minnesota, and Maryland.

“Others have said it would not be surprising that coffee may be protective of liver disease and that it may be beneficial for the liver,” she added. “One thing that was interesting was that this cohort presented a mix of characteristics of those who were drinking coffee. Some were current smokers. People who drink high amounts of coffee are more likely to be current smokers and are more likely to drink alcohol.”

She explained that coffee’s ties to liver health weren’t diminished even when other factors like bad diets or smoking were taken into account. The average person in the survey drank a little less than two 8-ounce cups per day.

Dr. Jamile Wakim-Fleming, a gastroenterologist at Cleveland Clinic, said that the results of this study are consistent with past research on coffee being tied to lower risk for liver disease.

She did caution, however, that people avoid adding too much sugar or cream — or at least doing it in moderation — to avoid risks to your heart. This means keeping those calorie-bursting Starbucks Frappuccinos to a minimum.

“I do tell my patients to drink coffee if they want, it does specifically help those who had evidence of alcoholic liver disease,” Wakim-Fleming told Healthline. “But one should note that they can’t continue to drink alcohol if they want to improve their liver disease, even if they drink coffee.”

She added that coffee isn’t a magic cure for liver disease and that people need to be mindful of underlying reasons for liver disease like alcohol consumption.

The new study is certainly not the first to point to the health benefits of coffee. A 2017 review of 201 studies found that coffee, in general, was associated more with health benefits than harm. The authors found that coffee consumption presented a lower risk of everything from heart disease and cancer, to neurological, metabolic, and, yes, liver conditions.

Coffee is hugely popular in the United States. About 54 percent of people over 18 in the United States drink coffee every day, according to the Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Over time, opinions on just how healthy coffee is have veered from negative to positive. Back in 1991, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) — the cancer research arm of the World Health Organization — identified coffee as a possible carcinogen, looking at studies that tied the caffeinated drink to bladder cancer.

Flash forward to a 2016 report in The Lancet Oncology and the IARC changed its tune on coffee. It dropped coffee from its list of possible causes for cancer, saying it was no longer possible to say that coffee caused the disease, the American Cancer Society reports.

Hu and her team recently submitted their research for journal review. She said that at the conference in Boston people kept coming up to her asking how much coffee they should be drinking.

“I want to clarify for people who are asking that even though we found this association that adds to the evidence that coffee could be beneficial for people’s health and that it is definitely not harmful, if they are not drinking coffee that is okay,” Hu said. “They can get health benefits from other foods in their diet. They don’t need to worry. For those who are drinking coffee, it is fine to continue drinking coffee guilt-free.”

Trying to keep away from marriage rumors: Deepika Padukone

Huawei to launch its first 5G phone next year

Monitoring Desk

5G is the next tech revolution. Slated to launch around 2020,Huawei is getting a head start.

The company’s first 5G phone will go on sale next year, it announced at Mobile World Congress Shanghai, sometime before the end of June 2019. It’ll follow Huawei’s first 5G Kirin chip, which it says will come in March.

Earlier this year, 18 phone makers committed to releasing a 5G phone sometime in 2019. LG, HTC and Xiaomi were on that list, but Huawei was conspicuously absent. Apple and Samsung, the world’s biggest phone makers, still haven’t made their 5G plans clear.

There’s a tidal wave of hype surrounding 5G, the next-generation wireless technology that promises to be significantly faster and more responsive than anything before it. In some cases — such as its potential application in self-driving cars, telemedicine, the trend of devices called internet of things — it can be life-changing.

How long those promises take to be realized, we don’t know. But companies promise 5G phones will have insane internet speeds roughly 10 times as fast as the 4G ones we currently enjoy.

Huawei will differentiate itself by using its own modem and processor, as opposed to one supplied by Qualcomm, but no matter how fast and cool it is, it’s unlikely to be officially available in the US. The company has been in the US government’s crosshairs since January, which was lead to Huawei losing out on deals with the likes of AT&T, Verizon and Best Buy.

Wozniacki will face Aryna Sabalenka in the final, following her 6-3 1-6 6-3 win over Agnieszka Radwanska.

Wozniacki lost 6-4 6-4 to Czech Karolina Pliskova – who went out to Sabalenka this year – in the 2017 final.

The Dane, who won her maiden Grand Slam at the Australian Open in January, grew frustrated in the opening set as she racked up the unforced errors. At 5-2 down she had a heated on-court conversation with her dad and coach, Piotr, before Kerber served out the first set. Wozniacki appeared more focused in the second set, racing to a 4-2 lead, before Kerber converted her second break point to force the match back on serve.

The German, a former world number one, had a match point on her service game but Wozniacki forced a tie-break and ultimately a third set. Wozniacki broke after a regulation first four games and held her nerve as Kerber twice held to love to serve out the match.

Abbasi reaches LHC for hearing of appeal against tribunal’s disqualification verdict

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi reached the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday (today) for the hearing of his appeal against the tribunal’s verdict disqualifying him from contesting polls from his home constituency, NA-57 Murree.

A two-member bench is expected to take up the appeal today.

Yesterday, the appellate tribunal had found Abbasi guilty of “concealing facts and withholding information from voters” in his nomination forms submitted for the constituency.

The written verdict said that Abbasi does not meet the requirements under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution of Pakistan.

The former premier, in a statement to the media, vowed to challenge the verdict.

Soon after the verdict was announced, Abbasi had said that the appellate court did not have the authority to disqualify a person for life. Noting that he was disqualified on the issue of the market value of his assets, the former premier explained that his father had purchased their house in 1974 and he had mentioned the purchase price in his nomination forms.

Later in the evening, Abbasi appeared on media. He stressed that he would use his right to appeal and contest the election from the same constituency. He had questioned the law under which the verdict had been announced.

“Election commission and Supreme Judicial Council should take notice of making the election controversial,” Abbasi had remarked.

Final list of candidates today

Candidates unwilling to contest the General Election 2018 have until today evening to withdraw their nomination papers.

After election tribunals wrapped up verdicts on appeals against objections to the decisions of returning officers on June 27, the revised list of candidates was issued on June 28.

The electoral body will announce the final list of candidates later today.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) asked candidates to submit party affiliation certificates by June 29.

It is mandatory for the candidates to submit their party tickets in order to be allotted their electoral symbols. Those who fail to do so will be considered independent candidates.

The elections are scheduled to be held on July 25, 2018.

NAB chief rejects allegations of targeting PML-N

LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau chairman retired Justice Javed Iqbal has rejected Pakistan Muslim League’s allegations that the anti-graft watchdog is only targeting a single party, saying the bureau has no political agenda and will continue its actions against corrupt elements in accordance with law without any influence.

“We are targeting no specific political party. We have no political agenda. People (politicians) should appear before NAB when summoned in any investigation and at the same time they can run their election campaign,” the NAB chairman told journalists in Lahore.

“As NAB chairman, I have never taken any action beyond law and Constitution. I request do not politicise NAB. It is established to fight corruption and serve people. It has got nothing to do with politics. Whether A or B is in the government NAB has to fight corruption and I believe that its actions (against the corrupt) cannot be stopped,” he added.

Talking about those who were not taking NAB’s summons seriously, Justice Iqbal said: “NAB’s notice is not some kind of (party) invitation. A notice is issued in accordance with law and it should be taken seriously. Those not following the law will be made to do so. To eliminate corruption, NAB was working before the elections and will continue doing so after that with full dedication.”

NAB has issued a third notice for July to PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif to appear before its combined investigation team in Lahore in connection with the Punjab Saaf Pani Company scam. He has skipped two back-to-back NAB hearings in this case. Similarly, Shahbaz Sharif’s son-in-law Ali Imran Yousuf did not appear before NAB despite issuance of three consecutive notices.

The NAB chairman also rejected a perception that the bureau was only active in Punjab. “NAB is taking action where corruption is reported.” He said if NAB questioned someone for corruption it was not a sin.

In reply to a question about bringing back former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s sons Hasan and Hussain, the NAB chairman said: “I have approved initiating the process of bringing them back.”

NAB is writing to the interior ministry to bring Hasan and Hussain, former finance minister Ishaq Dar and Ali Imran Yousuf from London through Interpol.

Justice Iqbal said that 80 per cent of the applications received by NAB were from the housing sector, adding that the bureau had received 11,000 applications alone from the Eden Housing affectees. He said NAB had asked the interior ministry to place the names of Eden Housing owners on the Exit Control List, but they left the country. “NAB will go after them and bring them back,” he promised.

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has alleged that the owners of Eden Housing were close relatives of former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and urged NAB to take action against him for facilitating the suspects.

Saaf Pani scam details

NAB provided details about the famous Saaf Pani scam as well as the reason for arresting PML-N candidate Engineer Qamarul Islam Raja.

According to NAB official in Islamabad, two notices were served to Mr Islam on May 3 and June 11 and he appeared before the anti-graft watchdog last month and was confronted with solid evidence in the case against him being convener of the procurement committee of Punjab Saaf Pani Company (PSPC).

Qamarul Islam is contesting the election from NA-59 Rawalpindi against disgruntled PML-N leader and former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. Interestingly, the Election Commission of Pakistan has accepted the nomination papers of Mr Islam which means he will definitely contest the general elections scheduled for July 25.

According to a NAB document, the inquiry into the scam has found sufficient evidence to prove involvement of Mr Islam in the commission of offences as defined under Section 9(a) and schedule of the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999. He is accused of accepting the negotiated bid price of KSB pumps at exorbitant rates under the garb of rationalisation.

According to NAB, being convener of PSPC’s procurement committee, Mr Islam did not ensure due diligence in the award of contract for installation of 84 water filtration plants in Hasilpur, Bahawalpur, Lodhran, Rahim Yar Khan and Khanpur.

Without approving the engineering cost, he allegedly dishonestly approved the bidding documents. Mr Islam also got approved from the PSPC board a contract for water pumps at exorbitant rates. He is also accused of getting approved from the board unsolicited proposal for 102 water filtration plants.

PSPC chief executive officer Wasim Ajmal is also accused of illegally approving 36 additional water filtration plants for the benefit of the contractor as well as approving a payment of Rs27 million to the management of Ali and Fatima Developers without the requisite approval by the board.

NAB had in November last year launched an investigation into alleged corruption in 56 public sector companies, including PSPC formed by the administration of former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif.

These companies are accused of certain irregularities, recruitment in violation of procurement rules and merit, nepotism and non-completion of various projects on time.

Pakistan remains on FATF grey list with ‘no chances’ of being put on blacklist

ISLAMABAD: The foreign office ruled out chances of Pakistan being blacklisted by the Financial Action Task Force while restating the country would remain on the inter-governmental body’s ‘grey list’.

The formal announcement, however, will be made by the FATF at the conclusion of their week-long deliberations in Paris on Friday (today) where finance minister Shamshad Akhter is representing the country’s case, said FO spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal at the weekly briefing.

“Here, let me take a moment to clarify many misperceptions regarding Pakistan’s listing in FATF, despite the fact that I categorically explained the official position on FATF to you all in February this year, which is also available on our website.”

The decision to place Pakistan on the international body’s grey list was taken earlier in February, after the country submitted its plan to chalk out money laundering, corruption and terror financing thus avoiding an immediate inclusion into the blacklist.

“Therefore, what is being reported in media recently is nothing new,” he added.

The 26-point action plan presented by Pakistan to the 37 nation FATF plenary will have to be implemented within the next 15 months in order to avoid being blacklisted, formally known as FATF’s public statement.

It was also agreed in February that an action plan would be negotiated between Pakistan and FATF members by June. This has been done.  “Pakistan will work towards effective implementation of the Action Plan while staying in the grey list,” Faisal said.

FO Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal

Faisal maintained that a similar situation took place in 2011 when Pakistan was included in the grey list and was taken out in 2015 after it successfully implemented the action plan. While according to the Press Trust of India, official sources in the Foreign Office said that being placed officially on the ‘grey list’ was not a surprise for Pakistan. “It is a political decision and nothing to do with the performance of Pakistan against terrorism,” they said, claiming that Pakistan will stay on the list for a year or so and will eventually be removed, “as has happened in the past”.

Pakistan submitted a detailed plan of action before the FATF, outlining a series of steps the country intends to undertake in the last year-and-a-half to curb terror financing as well as taking action against terrorist groups.  After its placement on the ‘grey list’, the country will be directly scrutinised by the financial watchdog until it is satisfied by the measures taken to curb terror financing and money laundering. Sources explained that Pakistan will have to deliver on the first goal by January next year and complete all the 26 actions by September 2019.

Pakistan urges EU to support UN Kashmir report

Reacting to the European Union’s criticism against Pakistan at the Human Rights Council on the shrinking space of media and civil society, the spokesperson said it was deeply regrettable that the EU, as a flag-bearer of human rights, had chosen to ignore the plight of Kashmiri civilians who continue to be subjected to killings, torture, rape, and the barbaric unprecedented use of pellet guns and human shield.

“We call upon the EU and its member states to lend its support to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights’ recommendation to establish an International Commission of Inquiry for the gross and systematic violations of human rights in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir as well as the full implementation of UN Security Council resolutions on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute,” the spokesperson stressed.

Afghanistan peace

On the Afghan situation, the spokesperson said Pakistan welcomed the announcement of ceasefire by President Ghani.  Upholding of ceasefire for three days by both sides had given renewed hope for a peace process in Afghanistan. Afghan Government’s announcement of the extension of the ceasefire was a step in the right direction.

“We believe that the ceasefire can be a major confidence-building measure. We urge all sides to engage in a peace process to bring lasting in Afghanistan,” Faisal said. On Abdullah Abdullah’s statement, he remarked Pakistan firmly believes that the most viable solution to the Afghan conflict lies in an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process.

“Pakistan, therefore, supports all peace efforts geared towards bringing peace and stability in Afghanistan. Pakistan will extend all support for the Afghan peace process,” he added.

Meanwhile, commenting on Noor Wali Mehsud’s nomination as new TTP chief, Faisal said, “We believe that the killing of terrorist Mullah Fazlullah, the mastermind of the APS terrorist attack and his continued role in directing terrorism against Pakistan is a significant development in the fight against terrorism.”

“The news of his death has been received in Pakistan with relief, especially for the families whose loved ones were victims of TTP’s terrorist attacks including the APS massacre. Pakistani leadership believes that a cooperative and coordinated approach is the best response to the menace of terrorism.”

He maintained that TTP and its affiliates were involved in terrorist acts against Pakistan and its people. “We will use all our resources to bring all terrorists to justice notwithstanding who leads this terrorist group.”

Regarding Gen Nicholson’s statement, he said Pakistan supported all peace efforts in Afghanistan.  “In our view, a peaceful and stable Afghanistan is in the best interest of Pakistan and the region. Our efforts for peace in Afghanistan are guided by our national interest and not by the desires of any external actor.”

CJP Nisar admits failure to put his house in order

ISLAMABAD/KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar conceded that being head of an institution he had failed to put his house in order.

“I admit openly that I have been unable to put the house in order,” the chief justice acknowledged while heading a four-judge bench that had taken up a petition seeking fresh rules for lower courts to decide suits, petitions and appeals within a stipulated time limit.

The petition was jointly moved by Umeer Ijaz Gilani, Attaullah Hakeem Kundi, Muhammad Haider Imtiaz, Raheel Ahmed and Hadiya Aziz, all legal practitioners.

During the hearing, the chief justice referred to a recent incident that happened during his inspection visit to Larkana district courts as a result of which Additional District and Sessions Judge Gul Zamir Solangi tendered his resignation letter.

The chief justice explained that the district judge had decided only two bail applications during the entire day and the orders were drafted by the reader.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court was told that the federal government had submitted its reply in which it conceded that the data received so far suggested that 38,205 cases, including petitions, appeals and revisions, were pending before different courts in the four provinces against the Centre. Once complete information was received, the same would be provided to the court, the federal government said.

The CJP hinted that he might constitute a larger bench to hear the matter.

KBA resolution

Meanwhile, the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) has expressed its dismay over the resignation tendered by Judge Gul Zamir Solangi.

CJP Saqib Nisar had expressed his anger at Mr Solangi and flung his mobile phone to the desk during his visit to the district courts last Saturday, asking him to leave his phone in his chamber. The chief justice was apparently irked upon getting an unsatisfactory reply from the judicial officer after observing the proceedings in his courtroom.

A ‘resignation letter’ purportedly written by Mr Solangi circulated on the social media, but a media coordinator for the Sindh High Court in Karachi clarified that it was ‘fake’.

The KBA passed a resolution, signed by its president Haider Imam Rizvi and general secretary Ashfaq Ali Gilal, stating that the KBA had always struggled for the improvement in dispensation of justice and to protect the independence of the judiciary in the country both from external and internal threats.

“Whereas the KBA is dismayed at the resignation tendered by a well-reputed Additional District Judge of Sindh, Gul Zamir Solangi, reportedly on account of his public humiliation at the hands of the Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan,” stated the resolution.

In the resolution, the president and general secretary said that while they applauded the CJP’s decision to start inspecting lower courts, which were in direct need of improvement, they considered that sporadic humiliation of the judicial officers live on television might improve the media ratings, and not judicial performance.

“Sustained improvement in the performance of district courts is only possible through dedicated attention to the structural, procedural and human resource management issues that plague our lower judiciary,” they said.

They were of the opinion that the court inspections should be conducted by quietly entering the court unannounced, noting the proceedings and, in case any wrongdoing was observed, directing the competent authority to take appropriate disciplinary action.

They called upon the CJP to urgently convene a full court meeting of the apex court to discuss concrete steps to redress the adverse repercussions of the aforesaid acts and to ensure that all judges were enabled to decide cases independently and restore public confidence in the judiciary as a whole.

India can’t hide crimes perpetrated by its forces: Bana

Geneva

Hassan Bana, representative All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) has said that the recently released UN report on Kashmir is a biggest breakthrough in the long pending and unresolved dispute of Jammu and Kashmir. Bana, while speaking at the 38th Session of UNHRC Geneva, said that India cannot now hide the horrific crimes being perpetrated by its over 700,000 troops, present in Kashmir.
“The human rights situation in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir is worsening. Indian leadership and its representatives in general, and the Indian Army Chief in particular are in a state of desperation after June 14, the day when OHCHR released a detailed report on Kashmir. The innocent people are being targeted, killed, maimed, humiliated and jailed on daily basis with impunity, however this ongoing genocide has been intensified after the release of this UN report. More than two dozen people have fallen to the bullets of these unbridled forces in just last two weeks.
Popular Kashmiri Journalist Dr. Shujaat Bukhari was assassinated a couple of hours after he and his newspaper welcomed High Commissioner’s report and now this assassination is being invoked by the legislators of India’s fanatic ruling party to threaten other Journalists and human rights activists of this occupied territory.India has always been trying to hide the crimes of its armed forces.
This is the opportune time for the Council to come forward and establish a commission of inquiry to conduct a comprehensive independent international investigation into the worst kind of human rights violations being perpetrated by over 700,000 Indian troops in occupied Jammu and Kashmir”, Bana said.—Email

Indian troops martyr five more youth

Protesters subjected to force, many injured

Srinagar

In occupied Kashmir, Indian troops in their fresh acts of state terrorism martyred five Kashmiris in Pulwama and Kupwara districts, today. The troops killed three youth in Thamuna area of Pulwama and one at Tunga-Kachama in Kupwara during cordon and search operations. The troops also destroyed a residential house at Thamuna.
People took to the streets in Chatpora and Thamuna areas in Pulwama and staged forceful demonstrations against the operation. The troops fired bullets, pellets and teargas shells to disperse the protesters, triggering severe clashes. One more youth was martyred while several others were injured in the troops’ action.
Meanwhile, two Indian soldiers were injured in an attack on a patrolling party of Indian Army in Ahgam area of Shopian district.
The All Parties Hurriyat Conference and the Hurriyat forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in their statements in Srinagar expressed serious concern over horrific and fearful atmosphere created by the Indian forces’ personnel through frequent night raids on the residences of pro-freedom leaders and activists. They said that despite Indian state terrorism, the Kashmiri people would take their freedom movement to its logical conclusion, come what may.

Fresh FIR against Aasiya ploy to muzzle genuine voices: DeM

Srinagar

In occupied Kashmir, Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) has rejected the latest recommendation of the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs asking the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to file a fresh FIR against the party Chairperson, Aasiya Andrabi, terming it another ploy of India to muzzle the genuine voices.
The DeM spokesperson in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the move depicted the frustration of the Indian government. “The NIA drama was enacted in the past too and when nothing transpired, the NlA had to omit the name of the DeM Chairperson. This fresh drama too will meet the same fate as it also is based on falsehood,” she added.
She said that Aasiya Andrabi and her associates, Nahida Nasreen and Fehmeeda Sofi were already in jail for the past three months in false and fabricated cases.
The spokesperson said, “Indian government knows that the DeM exposes its sinister policies and educates the people about India’s forcible control over Jammu and Kashmir. That is why India has been using this NIA drama as it has realized that it has failed to win over Kashmiris by using its 10 lac troops and now is using these cheap tricks by booking the resistance leadership and the pro-freedom people in false cases.”—KMS

Collusion of Hindutva with Indian media exposed

Spotlight on Kashmir

Sajjad Shaukat

SINCE Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leader of the extremist party-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power, he has been implementing anti-Muslim and anti-Pakistan agenda with the support of fanatic coalition organisations, as he had got a land sliding triumph in the Indian elections 2014 on the basis of anti-Muslim and anti-Pakistan slogans.
Besides, various developments like unprecedented rise of Hindu extremism, persecution of Muslims, assaults on Muslims, including their places of worships and property by the fanatic Hindu mobs, inclusion of Hindu religious books in curriculum and ban on beef and cow slaughter clearly show that encouraged by the Hindu fundamentalist parties such as BJP, RSS VHP, Bajrang Dal and Shiv Sena, including other similar outfits have been promoting religious and ethnic chauvinism in India by propagating the ideology of Hindutva (Hindu nationalism) which is the genesis of Hindu terrorism.
Besides, by Continuing false flag operations, on Setember18, 2016, New Delhi staged the drama of the terror attack in the Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) at a military base in Uri, close to the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan. After the episode, without any investigation, India’s top civil and military officials, including their media started propaganda against Pakistan by accusing that the militants who targeted the Uri base came from Pakistan’s side of Azad Kashmir. By manipulating that false flag terror attack, the BJP-led Indian Prime Minister Modi has also accelerated war-hysteria against Pakistan and instructed Indian forces to continue shelling across the LoC and Working Boundary, which have killed many innocent civilians inside Pakistani side of Kashmir and other nearby villages.
However, BJP-led coalition government of Modi, which is in collaboration with the preachers of Hindutva and those of ‘Bhagwa Atankwad’ (safron terror) is relentlessly promoting their ideologies. In every state election campaign, Bhagwa philosophy based on communalism was used as a driving tool to maximize the Hindutva vote, while affecting the opposition and regional disparities. Even, Indian P.M Modi has also recently claimed that BJP has enhanced influence and made government in twenty states. To further enhance the BJP’s pursued philosophy, a supportive atmosphere is being prepared, where every stakeholder of the Indian society is expressing readiness to shore up wittingly or unwittingly for promotion of Hindutva.
In this regard, on May-June, this year, revelations of the Indian website Cobrapost.Com exposed the dark colours of Hindutva which is in connivance with Indian media.
Cobrapost.Com disclosed that BJP and RSS are exploiting government funds for media management to win elections all over India and are promoting Hindutva ideology. While indicating other instances of Hindutva, it pointed out the recent exposition of ‘Operation 136’ which exposed the real face of Indian media.
In this respect, regarding the ‘Operation 136’, Cobrapost.Com revealed on March 26, 2018: “Cobrapost investigation exposes many Indian media houses willing to peddle Hindutva, which could lead to communal polarization for electoral gains, and to defame political rivals as part of a malicious media campaign, all for money…covert or overt attempt to misuse Social Media including Facebook to influence India’s electoral process through undesirable means…Well, this is exactly what Operation 136 establishes, for the first time in the history of Independent India.”
Earlier, Cobrapost had come into contact with Indian TV which belongs to Rajat Sharma-an editor known to be close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s largest Hindi newspaper Dainik Jagran, local Uttar Pradesh channel Hindi Khabar, the entertainment and news television company SAB Group, the English newspaper Daily News and Analysis DNA- owned by Zee and Dainik Bhaskar etc., including the news agency UNI, the entertainment channel 9X Tashan, the UP news channel Samachar Plus, the Uttarakhand channel HNN 24×7, the Hindi newspapers “Punjab Kesari” and “Swatantra Bharat”, web portals ScoopWhoop and Rediff.com, IndiaWatch, Hindi newspaper Aaj and the influential Lucknow-based news channel, Sadhna Prime News.
It claimed that none of the business representatives of the media houses seemed to consider it problematic that a client wanted to use their platform to influence the upcoming election to polarise voters and tarnish the reputation of opposition leaders mainly on communal grounds.
The portal said that the media groups agreed to play these because “sangathan” has set aside a budget of Rs. 742 crores for the Karnataka elections alone. It was also revealed that about Rs. 8,000 crores were spent for media management in the last general elections; and that the budget for the 2019 polls will be even more.
In this connection, in order to win the general elections 2019, Modi and the BJP-led coalition of the extremist parties are, again, propagating the ideology of Hindutva by targeting Muslims and Pakistan as part of the, pre-election strategy of the BJP.
As regards the propaganda campaign of the Indian media in support of Modi, it is notable that under the caption “Narendra Modi favourite for 2019 Lok Sabha elections, say US experts”, Indian leading newspaper Hindustan Times wrote on March 14, 2017: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emerged as a clear favourite for the 2019 general elections after the BJP’s landslide victory in assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, top US experts on India have said. It was a big win for the BJP. Its candidates won with much larger margin of victory than compared to the two previous winners–BSP and Samajwadi Party.”
Likewise, under the title “Why Narendra Modi Should Be Elected Again the PM of India in 2019”, Mohammed Asif opined in the website Lindinden.Com on October 30, 2016, “In 2014, a history was created when Narendra Modi was elected as the prime minister of India. Since he was elected by the great mass support, he is considered among the most popular leaders ever born in India…Despite of so many critics–from Arvind Kejriwal to Rahul Gandhi…There is much roar…Narendra Modi could win the election in 2019.”
Moreover, following a well throughout plan; BJP is playing anti-Muslim/anti-Pakistan card to gain votes of a majority of Hindus. Earlier BJP intended to create fissures in Muslim voters by blowing up “Triple Talaq” (irrevocable divorce), issue aiming to get votes of Muslim women.
Undoubtedly, we can conclude that the revelations of the Indian website Cobrapost.Com have exposed the dark colours of Hindutva which is in connivance with Indian media at the cost of Muslims, other minority groups and opposition parties such as Congress.

Authorities flayed for not producing JKML leaders in court

Srinagar

The Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (JKML) has strongly condemned the occupation authorities for not producing party leaders in High Court for hearing of the false cases registered against them despite court orders.
A JKML spokesman in a statement in Srinagar condemned the denial of justice to the party leaders and termed it political vendetta. He said not producing Muhammad Yousuf Mir, Assadullah Parray, Showkat Hakim, Merajuddin Mandy and Molvi Sajjad in court is the worst form of state terrorism and human rights violation.
He said, the authorities have devised new policies and methods to keep Hurriyat leaders in detention under baseless cases which is highly condemnable. He said prolonging the illegal detention of party Chairman, Masarrat Aalam Butt, Acting Chairman Abdul Ahad Parra, Assadullah Parray, Molvi Sajad and other political prisoners showed the frustration of the authorities. The policy adopted by the authorities cannot break the will and courage of the detained leaders, he added.
