Imran Farooq case: Decision to contact UK for extradition of Founder MQM

The federal government has decided to approach the UK for the extradition of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder, Iftikhar Hussain and Muhammad Anwar, who were convicted in the Imran Farooq murder case.

Interior Ministry officials told the media that the court would begin the process of extraditing the three convicts first.

A copy of the decision and a letter from the Attorney General and other documents will be sent to the UK.

It may be recalled that the Special Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad had pronounced the verdict in the murder case of Dr Imran Farooq on June 18.

The court also ordered the three accused Khalid Shamim, Mohsin Ali and Moazzam Ali arrested in the Imran Farooq murder case to be given life imprisonment and Rs 10 lac compensation to the heirs of the deceased.

The anti-terrorism court in its judgment has also issued permanent arrest warrants for Muhammad Anwar and Kashif Kamran, along with the notorious accused in the case, MQM founder and his close ones Iftikhar Hussain.

Dr. Imran Farooq was assassinated in the UK on September 16, 2010, after which the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) registered a case of murder in Pakistan on December 5, 2015 in which three accused Khalid Shamim, Mohsin Ali and Moazzam Ali was arrested.

Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Special Assistant for Political Communication Shahbaz Gill in response to the report of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane crash said that now we have to punish for the mistake, until the current attitude is changed we Pakistanis Will continue to die.

It may be recalled that a report on the crash of a PIA plane coming from Lahore to Karachi on May 22 has been tabled in the National Assembly stating that the plane crashed due to negligence of the pilot and air traffic controller.

In his response, Shahbaz Gill, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan for Political Communications, said that looking at the data of recent air accidents, it was clear that the real cause of these accidents was the irresponsible behavior of our pilots. There is a lack of training but the real problem is arrogance.

He said that as long as the current attitude is not changed, we Pakistanis will continue to die like this, now we have to punish the wrongdoers and when the wrongdoing is caught, the rescue union comes, Palpa protects them in any case, fake Degrees, fake licenses and yet they claim that we are the best in the world.

It may be recalled that on May 22, a national airline flight PK8303 to Karachi crashed into a  residential area near Jinnah International Airport, killing 97 people while two others were miraculously safe.
