Justice Tahira takes oath as chief justice of BHC

QUETTA: Justice Tahira Safdar sworn in as Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court on Saturday and she became the first woman chief justice of a Pakistani high court.

The historic ceremony was held at the Governor House administered by Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai.

Justice Tahira’s nomination as chief justice of BHC was confirmed in July by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar.

She has replaced Justice Noor Muhammad Meskanzai whose term ended Friday. Justice Tahira will serve as the chief justice of BHC will October 4, 2019.

Furthermore, she has also rendered her legal services as the first woman civil judge of Balochistan. She also enjoys the distinct stature of being the first woman to be appointed in all posts she has served on.

Born on October 5, 1957, Justice Tahira is the daughter of notable lawyer Syed Imtiaz Baqri Hanafi.

She is part of the special court bench hearing the treason case against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf.
